INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION 2014

International Women’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the globe. It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements and strategies are made to promote the well being of women. It is an occasion for looking back on past struggles and accomplishments, and more importantly, for looking ahead to the untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women.

Civil Engineering Department of RIET organised the Women’s Day Celebration at the mini auditorium  at 2 pm on the 13th of March, 2014.The Speaker for the day was Dr. B. G. Sreedevi, the director of NATPAC. She explained with examples of how women were successful and how lucky women were even with globalization, but she also pointed out to certain problems which women are facing in society, like women getting molested, the falling sex ratios, school dropouts, child prostitution, unwanted dowry related death, and especially atrocity towards women. All heads of departments as well as girl students were part of the program. The event started with a colorful welcome dance. The guest of honor delivered a great speech about being a part of womanhood.

There were many other wonderful programmes which ended with a vote of thanks and the singing of the national anthem. The session was a thorough learning experience.
